Wedding was ‘very poor showing celebrity-wise’, says Graham Norton

Graham Norton has said that his West Cork wedding was a “very poor showing celebrity-wise”.

The Irish chat show host, 60, married Jonathan “Jono” McLeod ​last year and said the “rumour mill went into overdrive” regarding celebrity appearances.

Norton appeared on CBS Mornings in America to discuss his book Forever Home and also spoke about his marriage to McLeod.

He said: “The thing about our wedding was, we had our wedding party in West Cork and so the rumour mill went into overdrive, that there was going to be a celebrity wedding.

“I cannot tell you, I talk to celebrities, but I don’t hang out with them.

“So it was a very poor showing celebrity-wise, but people thought they saw Elton John in the pub, there was a sighting of Adele.

“Adele was in the local supermarket without makeup. Now most people in that supermarket look like Adele without makeup.”

The host of The Graham Norton Show also discussed his new book which was released in the UK and Ireland in September 2022 and is set to be released in the US on September 19th.

Forever Home, described by Norton as a “dark romp”, follows Carol, a divorced teacher living in a small Irish town who gets a second chance at love.

The book, which sees Carol forced to leave her beloved home, was informed in part by Norton’s obsession with real estate.

He explained: “I grew up in Ireland, West Cork, where all my books are set and by the time I was 18, we had lived in 13 houses. Well, my parents liked moving. I mean, genuinely, they moved all the time.”

He added: “It seems that because I saw the inside of a lot of houses, I now like seeing the inside of a lot of houses.”

Norton also spoke about his love of writing, and said: “I would describe my writing as a credible hobby. You know, I have my day job – I host a talk show, I’ve got a radio show. That’s kind of my bread and butter. This is the jam and it’s lovely.”

The chat show host has also written novels Holding, A Keeper and Home Stretch.
