The man was struck by a car while walking on the motorway and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardai said the victim was involved in a single-vehicle collision on the M8 road at Upper Riverstown.

It is understood the car had hit speeds of 175km/h prior to it going down the M8 the wrong way and colliding with the car driven by the woman.
