Many events are free, but some require an RSVP, as the festival kicks off next week.

The parade kicked off from 2pm, which saw groups of parade goers march down Patrick St with bubbles, music, streamers and banners flying proudly, followed by the port party from 3pm.

The roots of LGBTQI+ activism in Ireland grew from the historic 1969 Stonewall Riots in the US, which are credited with sparking the rise of global LGBTQI+ liberation movements.

The event at The Pav (Pavilion) on Sunday, August 4, will kick off at 8pm with a meet and greet.

“There were people lining the streets, four and five deep, it was really just incredible to see such an outpouring of love and kindness and warmth.” 

The decision to meet at the Central Library for the rally has been described as “a defiant choice of venue" by a Cork TD. 

The theme for this year’s Cork LGBTI+ Awareness Week is Together Always – United in Diversity!

A spokesperson for the group said he hopes this year’s inaugural event will be the first in a long tradition of such events. 

Owner of the Heritage Pubs, Benny McCabe said they were delighted to be the venue partners for Cork Pride.
