In 1999, Tom Butler was asked to babysit Ballincollig Tidy Towns (BTT) for three months, little realising he would still be chairing the group 26 years later, but in his time it has improved the community of Ballincollig immeasurably, winning multiple Tidy Town accolades, including Ireland’s Tidiest Town 2024.

Sheena Crowley unveiled as the Cork Person of the Month for January

Mr Nicholls is best known for serving as organist and master of the choristers at St Fin Barre’s Cathedral for 26 years.

Established in 1993, the Cork Person of the Month awards celebrate the people of the city and county and the contributions they make to public life.

Their dedication to empowering people with disabilities and enhancing the lives of children with additional needs has earned them the prestigious honour.

Sr McCarthy was chosen in recognition of her more than 30 years of work in community development.
