From the Cork city marathon as a whole, among the top beneficiaries from funds raised this year were Breakthrough Cancer Research, Marymount University Hospice, CUH Charity, and Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The current Lord Mayor, Fianna Fáil’s Fergal Dennehy, will pass on the chain to the newly-elected Lord Mayor, set to be councillor Boylan, while his party colleague Gary O’Brien will take over the role of deputy Lord Mayor from Margaret McDonnell of Fianna Fáil.

Over 12,000 participants took to the streets across the full marathon, half marathon national championships and 10k events and each one had their own inspiring story, writes John O'Shea

More than 220 of Ellen’s family and friends came together to run and walk the half marathon and 10K events, to celebrate Ellen’s life and the joy she brought to sport and to Cork.

The 2026 Analog Devices Cork City Marathon brings thousands of runners and supporters into the city, and the accompanying traffic.

This year’s team includes those seeking asylum, refugees and people who have moved to Ireland for other reasons.

 Organisers of this year’s marathon event will honour the legacy of the young woman as part of the race series this summer, with her name inscribed inside a yellow heart on all three finisher medals.

The funds they raise for Enable Ireland through participation in the Cork City marathon will go towards a new €1.2m development fund to convert a bungalow in Midleton into a state-of-the-art hub.

Building on the €200,000 raised for 58 charity partners in 2024, this year’s goal is to raise €250,000.

Organisers say athletes hoping to participate next year are encouraged to book well in advance.
