THE blisters may not have healed yet for some runners, but hot on the heels of a very successful Cork City Marathon 2024, some tickets have already gone on sale for next year’s event.

This year’s sold-out marathon saw some 10,000 participants take the streets and raise in excess of €160,000 for local and national charities, and now organisers have put early bird tickets on sale for the 2025 marathon.

For a limited time, athletes have an opportunity between now and Sunday, June 9, to avail of what organisers are calling “a super early bird rate” of €60 for the full marathon entry, €40 for half marathon entry or €25 for the 10k race.

All three races sold out quickly for the 2024 event, and organisers say athletes hoping to participate next year are encouraged to book well in advance.

Improvements

A range of improvements introduced this year were applauded by participants, as were the efforts of the pacers and volunteers.

Among the improvements made were extra water stations, period products, new 10k winners’ cups and newly designed medals.

Local community groups made their own contributions, lining the streets to cheer on participants, with some of the residents cooling down runners by spraying them with cooling water from their garden hoses.

Race director Eamon Hayes said organisers had been delighted with the positive feedback they had received about this year’s event, which was organised by Cork City Council.

“It’s time to start thinking about next year already, so mark your calendar for June 1, 2025.

“Whether you are setting your sights on your first ever marathon experience with a 10k, half or full marathon entry, just know that the most important step is that first step towards your goal by booking your slot,” Mr Hayes said.
