The race for the 2026/27 TUS Corn Uí Mhuirí title gets under way on Monday afternoon and Cork's six representatives will all harbour ambitions of making a significant impact in Munster's premier post-primary football competition.

The traditional Wednesday opening-round schedule has been replaced by a staggered fixture programme, a change that was introduced amid concerns over planned industrial action by public-sector workers, which has since been suspended.

Last season brought mixed fortunes, with St Francis College Rochestown reaching the semi-finals, while Mount St Michael Rosscarbery arrive in the top grade after securing promotion through success in the Senior B competition.

Fifteen years have passed since Coláiste Chríost Rí defeated St Brendan's College to lift the famous trophy in 2011 and become the most recent Cork school to claim the title. While the county's wait continues, there is cautious optimism that one of this year's crop can mount a sustained challenge.

Leading the Cork charge once again are St Francis College Rochestown. Managed by Éire Óg clubman Liam Sheehan, Rochestown have developed into one of the competition's most consistent performers in recent years.

Their run to last season's semi-final underlined the progress they have made, although defeat to eventual champions Tralee CBS also demonstrated the standards required to go all the way.

Rochestown, who again look well equipped to challenge, will open their campaign against Intermediate School Killorglin in Group 1 on Tuesday.

Hamilton High School Bandon also begin their campaign on Tuesday when they take on Mount St Michael Rosscarbery. Hammies have built valuable experience at this level and will believe they are capable of making life difficult for any opponent.

Having reached the semi-finals two seasons ago, they know what it takes to compete deep into the championship and will hope an opening-round victory can provide momentum.

Rosscarbery are one of the stories of the competition following their promotion from the grade below and will relish the opportunity to test themselves against established Corn Uí Mhuirí opposition.

Clonakilty Community College face a stern examination in Group 2. Managed by Carbery Rangers man Micheál Haulie O'Sullivan, Clon reached last season's quarter-final before eventually being knocked out by CBS High School Clonmel and will be hoping to go at least one step further this time around.

Their opening fixture against St Flannan's College in Banteer on Monday could prove pivotal. Also in the group are St Brendan's College and Presentation Secondary School Milltown, ensuring there will be little margin for error.

Despite the challenge, Clonakilty should not be overlooked. The West Cork school has consistently produced competitive teams and another successful campaign would come as little surprise.

Group 3 gets under way on Tuesday with Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig taking on De La Salle College Macroom in Clondrohid.

Managed by Denis Keohane, Coláiste Choilm have shown in recent seasons that they can compete at this level and will be targeting qualification from a section that also includes last season's runners-up CBS High School Clonmel.

The three-team format means each side has only two group games, placing extra significance on every result.

De La Salle Macroom, meanwhile, continue to draw on a proud football tradition and will also be targeting qualification from what is arguably the tightest group in the competition.

The core of the squad will feature many players from Macroom, who recently captured the Premier 2 MFC crown.
