Both ePower East Cork and Valley Rangers made winning starts to their Munster Junior Shield campaigns.
ePower took on established AUL opponents St, John Boscos at Mayfield Park and went two up before half-time courtesy of Ronan Birdthisle and Ryan Sexton. After Kaelem Hennessy added a third in the 63rd minute. The visitors replied with goals from Dan Donovan and Eddie Foley.
Valley atoned for their disappointing exit in the Shandon Cup by seeing off the challenge of Castlebridge Celtic at Conna Community Centre. Following a goalless opening 45, Conor Twomey fired the visitors in front in the 54th minute. Cian Doyle netted his 10th of the season to equalise in the 72nd minute before late goals from Tom Hartnett and player-manager Eoin Doyle sealed Valley’s victory.
ASH had earlier led 3-2 after a Bryan Goulding double and a third from Aaron Keohane had edged the visitors in front on the hour. However, the former CBL outfit, then under the name of UCC United, tagged on four goals from Kieran Maher, Jack Murphy, Gokhan Dumlupinar and Bohdan Krykunov to ASH’s one from Emmanuel O’Neal.
Doolan’s put local AUL rivals to the sword at Rockenham with Aaron Hennessy grabbing four and Jamie Murphy, Tony O’Reilly and an own goal adding to the total. Patrick Mooney had earlier scored for the visitors at three down.
Shane Herlihy gave Arc a dream start at the Meadows by scoring as early as the ninth minute. The visitors conceded on the stroke of half-time when Jack McCarthy got in for the equaliser and Sean Murphy went on to score twice for the West Cork League team.
Premier champions Helio Inter Cork were undone by second-half goals from Waterloo’s Aaron Buckley and Shane O’Shea at Mayfield Park.
Cork Hospitals and MHS concluded their league campaigns by serving up a rip-roaring contest at Ballinhassig. Once Gheheorg Marculescu got Hospitals off the mark, the goals flowed like mana from heaven. Ian Tobin set up Tomás Sheehan for the equaliser 11 minutes later and John Paul Morrissey added a second in the 22nd minute.
The pendulum then swung in Hospitals' direction as Brian Senyonyi sent Rob Hughes in to score twice within four minutes, only for Sheehan to level again before half-time. The goal glut gathered momentum as Jamie O’Neill put Hospitals in front for the third time.
Back came Harvey’s not only to equalise but to regain the lead through Sheehan and Conor Lehive. After Senyonyi and Stoffel Mamashula exchanged goals within a minute, there was still time for Hughes to net the second hat-trick of the day. The introduction of Hospitals manager Gavin Woods as a sub marked his incredible involvement on the field of play stretching back to 1997.
DoMA and Grangevale completed their trilogy with another high-scoring affair. After Corey Harris opened the scoring in the ninth minute, two fine goals from Gabriel Do Nascimento and Adriano turned the tie in the Giants’ favour.
Goals from Luke Dennehy and a cracking second from Harris put the Vale on top at the break. Harris went on to complete his hat-trick in the 66th minute and in the process scored his one hundred for his club. DoMA pulled two back through Marcos Aurelio and Rafael Felippe to salvage a draw.
OBS led 3-0 at half-time through a Ross Daly hat-trick before Adam O’Flynn reduced the deficit early in the second 45. After OBS’s Tom Crowley and Barbers’ Jamie O’Driscoll exchanged goals, Sean Blake completed the scoring for the visitors in the 79th minute.
Champions Munter’s DCT wrapped up their with an impressive win over AI FC, Robbie Burke (3), Luke O’Sullivan (2) and Vladas Slabkovskis on target for the winners.
The fifth meeting between the promotion candidates in all competitions went the hosts' way as goals from Callan Dempsey and a second from Ken O’Brien 10 minutes later could only be halved by Abbey’s Cian Lucey.
A solitary Greg Sienicki sixth-minute goal at Camden was enough for Council to advance in the cup.
