Douglas Hall came to the Landing Field on Saturday morning in the Daly Industrial Supplies U19 League Cup semi-final and produced a very convincing victory.

What made this result so impressive was that the Hall had only the bare 11 players and had to play with 10 for most of the second half. Another was forced off midway through the second half, as they were missing a chunk of their squad because of the UCC Open Day.

The Hall led 4-0 at half-time with two goals from Rory Denn, along with Michael Karuru and Larry Butler.

Denn completed his hat-trick on the restart and then the Man of the Match David Aduroja added a hat-trick of his own to see them into the final where they will play Avondale United, who beat Leeside United 5-4 on penalties after their semi finished 1-1 at Avondale Park.

It was the visitors who had the first sight of goal in the 10th minute. Michael Karuru made a strong run down the right wing and he found Aduroja with a good cross but Ballincollig’s keeper David O’Connell made a smart save.

The Village then had a great opportunity to break the deadlock five minutes later. Finn O’Sullivan released Issac Mullins but Hall keeper Daniel Wiseman raced off his line to make a brave save.

The visitors took the lead in the 25th minute. Aduroja whose presence was giving the Village’s back four all sorts of problems found Denn with a slick flick, who finished from close range.

The Hall were 2-0 up three minutes later and again it was Aduroja with another fine cross, which Karuru smashed home from the edge of the box. Things got worse for the Village 10 minutes later. Darragh Morley floated in a superb free kick and Butler was at the back post to head home.

The Hall increased their lead 4-0 three minutes before half-time. Denn raced down the left wing and when crossed the ball into the box where Karuru was on hand to score from close range.

The visitors made a dream start to the second half when they went five up after Butler released Denn and he kept his composure to coolly slot home.

The home side made a string of subs to try get back in the game. However, the Hall increased their lead in the 58th minute. Denn turned provider again and when he found Aduroja in space, the forward curled his effort past David O’Connell.

The game was well over as a contest four minutes later and again it was the Hall’s Aduroja and Karuru who were terrorising the Village defence with their strength, pace and skill.

When Karuru found Aduroja with a neat pass, he made no mistake to score from close range.

They struck again in the 71st minute. Aduroja chased down a hopeful long ball and when he retrieved it on the byline he got his reward for all his hard work to complete his hat-trick.
