John Blennerhassett hits two goals as Passage beat Glanmire in Seandún JAFC
John Blennerhassett was Passage's top scorer with two goals at Ballinlough.
Passage have made it two wins from two in the AOS Security Seandún Junior A Football Championship, as they defeated Glanmire at Ballinlough.
Passage lead their group, while Glanmire remain rooted to the foot of the table on zero points.
In a one-sided opening half, Passage got the game’s first goal within seconds of the throw-in, while Glanmire landed the game’s first two-pointer. In the second half, Passage got two further goals. Glanmire converted a penalty and got the game’s second two-pointer from a free.
John Blennerhassett opened the scoring for Passage with a goal after 30 seconds.
Glanmire remained on the back foot, as Scott Coughlan slotted over a pointed free, to extend Passage’s lead to 1-1 to 0-0.
Glanmire opened their account as Naoise Marron landed the game’s first two-pointer from play after 11 minutes.
Passage regained the initiative as Noah White tagged on two unanswered points. Killian Murphy also chipped in with Passage’s second point from a free. This gave Passage a lead of 1-4 to 0-2.
Glanmire’s Gerry O’Callaghan exchanged points with Coughlan
Glanmire held the upper hand for the last ten minutes of the opening half, but wayward shooting was to be their undoing. Passage net-minder Callum Finnegan was also pulling off some spectacular saves in this period, as Passage led 1-5 to 0-3 at half-time
Glanmire got the opening score of the second half as O’Callaghan converted a free from outside the Passage 40-metre arc, three minutes after the restart. This reduced the deficit to three points.
Passage replied with a point from play by Killian Murphy.
In the 38th minute, James Kind embarked on a soccer-style dribble to set up Blennerhassett for Passage’s second goal. Glanmire responded instantly, courtesy of a point from play by Keith Crowe.
Approaching the midway point of the second half, Glanmire were awarded a penalty from which Gerry O’Callaghan drilled home a goal. This left the scoreline reading 2-6 to 1-6 in favour of Passage.
Entering the final quarter, Passage had Glanmire pinned back as persistent fouling was proving to be costly for Glanmire.
Killian Murphy converted a free for Passage and he also drilled home his side’s third goal, nine minutes from time.
Glanmire had Passage back on the defensive. They were to be denied a second goal-scoring opportunity as George Grandon saw his goal-bound shot sail narrowly wide of the target.
Coughlan slotted over his second pointed free for Passage, two minutes from time.
Passage were also denied another goal-scoring opportunity in the closing stages, due to a square ball infringement.
In stoppage time, Jack Tierney slotted over a point from play for Glanmire, with the last kick of the game.
