New schools committee launched — Cork GAA sets out framework for 2026/27 season

Cork GAA is gearing up for the new academic year with the establishment of a new Post Primary Schools Committee, a move that marks a fresh and more structured chapter in the organisation’s work with schools across the county. 

The committee has been created to oversee the promotion and development of Gaelic games at post primary level, ensuring that teachers, administrators and students have the support, clarity and resources needed to make the most of the school sports calendar. 

Its remit will include competition structures, communication pathways, player-welfare considerations and the broader aim of strengthening the link between Cork GAA and the education sector.

To formally launch the initiative, an inaugural information meeting will take place at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Wednesday, September 9th, with all Cork post primary schools invited to attend. Registration opens at 6.30pm, followed by the meeting at 7pm. 

Cork GAA is encouraging strong attendance, noting that early engagement will be key to ensuring the season runs smoothly.

The meeting will outline plans for the 2026/27 school year, including competition formats, calendar scheduling and important updates ahead of what is expected to be a busy and fast-moving season for school GAA. 

Schools will have the opportunity to raise issues, discuss proposed changes and clarify expectations for the year ahead. The committee says this open forum is central to its approach, allowing teachers and administrators to highlight challenges, suggest improvements and share practical insights from previous seasons.

By improving coordination, the committee hopes to reduce fixture congestion, streamline decision-making and support player development programmes that benefit both schools and clubs.

Schools are asked to ensure that two representatives attend, preferably including the school’s GAA Administrator. A separate Cork GAA Post Primary Schools meeting will be held later in the year to continue the dialogue, review progress and address any emerging issues once competitions are underway.
