Darragh Cashman has stepped away from the Cork senior football panel for the 2027 season, The Echo understands.

The Millstreet defender has informed management of his intention to take a break from the inter-county game.

However, it is understood that Cashman views the decision as a temporary one and plans to pull on the Cork jersey again in the future.

Cashman's departure represents the loss of a talented and versatile footballer who was highly regarded throughout his underage career with Cork.

A key member of successful Rebel teams in recent years, he enjoyed notable achievements at both minor and U20 level before progressing to the senior ranks.

One of his standout successes came in 2019 when he helped Cork claim the All-Ireland minor football title, ending a long wait for national glory at the grade.

Two years later, he added a Munster U20 medal to his collection, further underlining his reputation as one of the county's most promising young defenders.

Despite that pedigree, Cashman found it difficult to establish himself as an automatic starter at senior level.

Competition for places, coupled with injury setbacks and other interruptions along the way, meant he was unable to nail down a regular berth in the Cork defence.

While stepping away for now, the expectation is that Cashman has not closed the door on a return. Time remains firmly on his side and he still has the potential to play a significant role for Cork in the years ahead.

For the immediate future, however, his focus will turn towards Millstreet as he takes a break from the demands of the inter-county scene.
