Douglas junior hurlers up and running with victory over Glen Rovers

Douglas recorded their first win of the AOS Security Seandún Junior A Hurling Championship, as they defeated Glen Rovers before a sizeable attendance at Ballinlough. 

This result leaves Douglas in pole position, ahead of Passage on scoring differences.

Glen Rovers made the better start, but Douglas seized the initiative as they held Glen Rovers scoreless for most of the opening quarter. The second half was more evenly contested as Glen Rovers brought themselves back into contention with the game’s only goal.

Jamie Corkery opened the scoring with a pointed free for the Glen within two minutes of the throw-in, but Diarmuid Coleman responded with a point for Douglas.

Jack Kennefick got Glen Rovers’ first score from play and Nathan Goulding added a free to give their side a two-point advantage.

Cormac Reddington added a point for Douglas, but Corkery responded with his second free.

The tide began to turn in favour of Douglas as Cormac Reddington’s second point, which was followed by a 65 by Coleman, levelled matters at four points apiece.

Douglas took the lead for the first time with a point by Stephen St Leger.

Douglas had Glen Rovers pinned back as Coleman added six unanswered points, which included three from placed-balls. Cormac Reddington, Brian O’Connor, Fionnán Barry and Cian Baldwin each added further points.

Glen Kennefick replied with a point for Glen Rovers, which left the half-time scoreline reading 0-15 to 0-5 in favour of Douglas.

Within 20 seconds of the restart, Goulding got the game’s only goal for Glen Rovers. Doulgas responded with four unanswered points, including a free and a 65 by Coleman. Glen Rovers replied with two points, including a free by Corkery.

Coleman and Donnacha Reddington each added points from play for Douglas, while Glen Kennefick replied for Glen Rovers. Corkery converted two frees.

In the final quarter, Glen Rovers outscored Douglas with points by Danny Murphy and Goulding. Corkery pointed four frees. Cormac Reddington and Baldwin replied for Douglas. Coleman added a free.
