Referee Andrew Larkin accompanied by captains Katie Walsh (Glen Rovers) and Isobel Sheehan (Éire Óg) before the opening round of the Cork camogie championship.

Éire Óg 3-16 Glen Rovers 1-8

Éire Óg got their SE Systems Cork Senior Camogie Championship campaign off to a winning start, as they defeated Glen Rovers in their one-sided opener at Castle Road.

In the opening half, the Muskerry side played an open game, while the majority of Glen Rovers' scores came from frees. In the second half, which was one-way traffic in Éire Óg’s favour, they restricted the Blackpool side to three points.

Despite playing against the wind in the opening half, the Mid Cork side raced into a lead of 1-2 to 0-0, courtesy of a point from play by Clara Murphy and a free by Fiona Twohig. This was followed by the game’s opening goal by Isobel Sheehan.

Glen Rovers reduced the deficit to two points as Jennifer Hosford replied with a goal in the eighth minute.

Orlaith Cremin tagged on two points for Éire Óg and Roisín Murphy also added one. Twohig also converted a free.

Emma Murphy replied with four pointed frees for Glen Rovers, as persistent fouling was proving to be costly by the Muskerry side. This left Éire Óg leading by 1-6 to 1-4.

Clara Murphy and Michaela Hyde exchanged points from play, before the Mid Cork side had Glen Rovers pinned back. Lisa Murphy added Éire Óg’s second goal in the 24th minute. This was followed by points from Clara Murphy and Cremin, which gave Éire Óg a half-time lead of 2-9 to 1-5.

The Muskerry side added 1-3 without reply, with Clara Murphy getting 1-1. Cremin added her fourth point from play and Sheehan slotted over a point from a free.

Entering the final quarter, Emma Murphy converted her fifth free for the Blackpool side.

Sheehan and Roisín Murphy each tagged on points from play for Éire Óg and Emma Akinkuolie replied with a point for Glen Rovers.

The scoring was completed two minutes into stoppage time, courtesy of a point for the Mid Cork side by Lisa Murphy.
