International draghunt meeting at Aghabullogue on Saturday will kick off the first major meet of the season
Mary and Lewis Barrett of Shanakiel harriers with Charlotte's Lass winner of the John Hennessy Memorial Puppy draghunt at Coppeen.
The international meeting at Aghabullogue on Saturday will kick off the first major meet of the season and is sure to attract a huge attendance to the mid Cork venue.
As in previous years the senior slip at 3.30pm will be the main race of the day with Senior Maiden, Puppy and Puppy Maiden draghunts also on the card.
Looking at the Senior draghunt the Gary, Joe and Nicole Freyne trained Not now Al is presently running superbly and his consistency has taken him to the championship summit.
Looking at the last year’s race Knockane Jack trained by Ger and Jennifer Kenneally produced a sterling finish to defeat the Griffin United duo of Sean T and Knock’s Boy.

Reports from the course suggest a similar line of country and with so many hounds running consistently well it could well be a humdinger of a finish.
Like every year the Senior Maiden draghunt is a lottery with so many trainers eyeing the big prize but Born to Run of Northern Hunt is a big race specialist and may well give value for money in the betting ring.
The Puppy draghunt always has a special buzz and Clogheen trainers William Freyne will be hoping championship leader Putting on the Style can continue with his recent impressive form.
There was action last weekend in Cahirciveen where Cork clubs fared poorly in all three draghunts.
Amazingly, the Cork association continue to support this meeting knowing they have little or no chance of gaining success.
To be fair there was another meeting in Monaghan and the Senior draghunt was won by Hey Mac trained by Neil and Gilliam Browne of the HTA in England who are regular visitors in supporting Cork draghunts.
Kerry Pike Fair Hill harriers trainer James Green was delighted when his charge Starman’s Son won the Senior Maiden draghunt and well done to all concerned on their success.
Credit to the promoters in Monaghan they provided a good neutral draghunt just like the Cork association who give all hounds a fair crack of the whip.
There was Puppy action at Coppeen on Bank Holiday Monday when the honours went to the Mary Barrett Shanakiel harriers trained Charlotte’s Lass.
In a driving finish the winner saw off the William Freyne and Ryan Duffy Clogheen trained One day at a Time with Handsome Jack of Kerry Pike/Fair Hill harriers snatching third ticket.
The Puppy Maiden honours went to the Emma Power Northern Hunt trained, Gypsy Rock who saw off the Shanakiel harriers kennelmates Naoi’s Boy and Naoi’s Girl.
