Former Kerry boss Peter Keane to remain with Aghabullogue until end of season

Peter Keane will continue in his role with the Aghabullogue footballers for the remainder of the season.

The former Kerry and Clare manager had joined the set-up in February on an interim basis, but with Cork’s U20 campaign now finished, his position naturally came back into focus in recent weeks.

Keane’s younger brother Ray manages the Cork U20s, whose narrow Munster final loss to Kerry recently brought the season to an end. Ray only returned to Aghabullogue last week.

Once that result closed off his inter-county commitments, discussions followed around whether Peter would stay involved or step away. The club asked him to remain on, and he has agreed to do so.

His decision comes at an important time for Aghabullogue, who are still settling into life at senior level after last year’s McCarthy Insurance Group PIFC success.

That breakthrough title pushed them into the senior ranks for the first time, and their progress has continued this spring as they stay firmly in the hunt for promotion in the Division 3 League.

They did lose last Sunday to Naomh Abán by three points in Coachford, which was a blow.

Keane’s influence since arriving has been well received within the group. His coaching record speaks for itself: three All-Ireland minor titles with Kerry between 2016 and 2018, followed by taking the Kingdom seniors to the 2019 All-Ireland final, where they brought Dublin to a replay.

He managed the Clare senior footballers during the 2025 season.

Later this year, Aghabullogue will compete in a McCarthy Insurance Group SAFC group containing Dohenys, Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh and Kanturk — a tough section that will test their depth and adaptability.

Keeping someone of Keane’s calibre in the fold strengthens their hand as they look to get promoted in the league and prepare for a tough championship campaign.
