A superb finish from Knockane Jack ensured her an impressive win in the Sean and Monica Walsh memorial Senior draghunt at the Fornaught on Sunday.

In another top-class draghunt the winner trained by Ger and Jennifer Kenneally in partnership with Ian Freyne saw off all comers to cross the tape ahead of the consistent Not now Al of Clogheen from Gary and Nicole Freyne’s kennel.

The reigning champion Sean T ran another superb draghunt to fill third ticket ahead of Ashcroft, Rodman and Misty.

The last fortnight has been a good one for Kenneally family and trainer Ger was jubilant after this win.

“To win a draghunt in memory of two decent people like Sean and Monica Walsh is very gratifying and we will celebrate this one for sure,” said Ger Kenneally.

The Senior Maiden draghunt was another close finish and just when James Green of Kerry Pike/Fair Hill Harriers thought he was going to taking the honours with Starman’s Son his hound was passed in the run to the tape by Midday Authority trained by Andrew O’Callaghan of Mayfield.

Indeed, it was a good day for the winning kennel as they also filled third and fifth tickets with Midday Star and Midday Rambler.

The Puppy meeting at the same venue proved to be a huge success with two cracking races witnessed by the large attendance.

The Clogheen grandfather and grandson partnership of William Freyne is certainly firing on all cylinders this season and they continued with their winning run when Putting on the Style chalked up his fourth win of the season.

In another thrilling finish, the winner saw off his kennelmate One Day at a Time with the Caroline Fitzgerald Kerry Pike/Fair Hill harriers trained Handsome Jack running a season best to snatch third ticket.

There was natural elation in the winner’s camp following their latest success as William Freyne praised his hound’s consistency.

“I think since the season began our hounds have been running really well and it’s great when your hard work in the off-season is rewarded,” said William.

Another kennel in great form is the McCarthy Mayfield brothers, Kyle and Calum, as their charge Mossy’s Reign produced another sterling run to see off Polar Bear trained by Pa Murray of Shanakiel Harriers.

Mary Barrett also of Shanakiel Harriers will be pleased with the performance of Black Paddy who filled third ticket.

The Cork association would like to convey their thanks to Con O’Leary for the use of his land in the start and finish and to the farming community of Donoughmore for their continued cooperation in ensuring the success of this meeting.

The draghunting action next weekend will take place at Newcestown when Shanakiel Harriers host their annual Puppy meet on Friday with a 7.30pm slip.

On Sunday the Senior meeting has a noon slip to avoid a clash with the Munster hurling clash.
