With the halfway mark passed in the RedFM Division 1 Hurling League, Midleton lead the way at the top of the table with a perfect record from five games, while St Finbarr’s and Douglas trailing two points behind.

The battle at the foot of the table is close too, Killeagh’s win over Fr O’Neill’s gives them a chance of avoiding relegation. They face Charleville next weekend, and with the north Cork side on four points, a win for the east Cork club would be a huge boost.

But they’ll likely also need to get a result from their meeting with fellow Senior A side Carrigtwohill, who sit on four points from five games, while Killeagh are seventh with two.

O’Neill’s have zero points from their opening five games and will almost certainly drop to Division 2, while Glen Rovers only have three points so far and could find themselves in trouble should they fail to beat Douglas next week.

But, in the scoring charts, the man at the top is Carrigtwohill’s Seán Walsh, leading the overall and from play tables.

His total of 4-47 (1-24 f) is an impressive 46.4% of Carrig’s total scoring. He managed to jump Ben Cunningham for first in the chart following his outstanding performance against Glen Rovers, where he scored 2-8 from play.

Now second in the overall chart is Cunningham with 1-52, who posted a solid 1-6 in the Barrs’ win over Killeagh, while Fr O’Neill’s Kevin O’Sullivan remains in third with 0-51 from the first five games.

Robbie Cotter retains fourth spot following his 0-10 haul in their defeat to Sarsfields, while Douglas’ Mark O’Brien jumped from ninth to fifth after another huge league performance in his first season playing senior.

Midleton’s Mikey Finn drops from fifth to sixth, while Daniel Hogan climbed up to seventh in the table after scoring 1-5 from play against Blackrock.

Glen teammates Patrick Horgan and Stephen Lynam are tied for eighth place with a total of 24 points each, Lynam having scored three goals and Horgan two.

Charleville’s David Forde and Douglas’ Shane Kingston are tied for tenth with 1-20 apiece.

While Walsh leads the from-play scoring, his closest challenger is O’Brien, who had previously been at the top of the chart. Ben Cunningham has moved from sixth to third and now has 1-19 from play, while Jack O’Connor climbs from ninth to fourth after scoring 1-5 last week against Blackrock.

St Finbarr’s Jack Cahalane drops to fifth and Robbie Cotter falls to sixth, while Shane Kingston and Seán Walsh’s younger brother Patrick are tied for seventh.
