Leeside United were crowned the JAKO IRELAND Munster Youth Cup champions when they defeated another Cork side Lakewood Athletic by five goals to two in the final at the MFA Turner's Cross Stadium.

Leeside led 2-0 at half time, with goals from man of the match Craig Mostyn-St Ledger and JJ Foley.

They increased their lead 3-0 with another strike from Mostyn-St Leger ten minutes from the restart and Foley grabbed his second goal of the game a minute later to lead 4-0.

Jamie Coughlan added a fifth goal in the 70th minute, however, to give Lakewood credit, they battled hard and never left their heads drop to grab two late goals through Darragh Sheehan and Chidu Ebili to eventually lose 5-2.

Leeside came out of the blocks extremely quickly and raced into an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute.

Craig Mostyn-St Ledger received a pass from JJ Foley and he then cut inside to finish at the near post.

Mostyn-St Ledger then turned provider when he played a terrific through ball for Foley to made it 2-0 in the 18th minute after he expertly finished with a left foot effort.

Leeside were good value for their 2-0 lead at half time as they created a lot more efforts in front of goal, however, Lakewood were always dangerous on the break, with Darragh Sheehan and captain Cian O’Flynn leading the line for them to try get back in the cup final.

Leeside started the second half on the front foot with Foley and Ronan Murray unlucky not to make it three within minutes of the restart, with two powerful efforts.

However, Leeside did make it 3-0 in the 54th minute when Mostyn-St Ledger brilliantly beat his defender and after his initial shot was saved Cian Davis-Heelan in the Lakewood goal, but he finished to the back of the net from the rebound.

They were 4-0 up a minute later.

Foley received another through ball from Mostyn-St Ledger and he rounded Davis-Heelan to grab his second goal of the game and his seventh in total in this competition.

Leeside weren’t finished scoring yet, as Jamie Coughlan made it 5-0 in the 70th minute slotting home after a great through ball from Christopher Kelly.

Lakewood to their credit battled back and scored twice through Darragh Sheehan and Chidu Ebili to make the score respectable 5-2.

The Leeside manager Conor Murray was delighted with his team’s display and also praised Lakewood for the way they battled all through the game.

“I so delighted to win as we came up against a very good Lakewood team with whom we had a lot of close battles over the years,” Murray added.

“Everything went right for us, we were determined and clinical.

"In fairness to Lakewood, they kept battling and got two goals back which is a testament to their resolve and their quality.

"We are just delighted to get over the line and win such a prestigious competition,” Murray added.

Lakewood manager Aodh Quinlivan, although disappointed, was full of praise for his side's battling display and also took time to congratulate Leeside for well deserved victory.

“We're very proud of the run the lads have been on and it was a great occasion to see two Cork clubs in the Munster final,” Aodh said.

“The players kept fighting to the end and scored two fine goals from Darragh Sheehan and Chidu Ebili, as well as missing other chances.

“Overall though, Leeside were the better team and deserved the victory.

"Congratulations to their players and coaches,” Quinlivan added.
