St Michael’s produced champagne football and overcame a brave Kiltha Og side in the final of Rebel Óg Premier 2 Féile at MTU on Monday.
In a game that the city side dominated from start to finish a fifth-minute Luke Kelly goal laid the foundation for this impressive win.
The city had a great goal opportunity in the second minute when Shay Crowley broke through but his shot was deflected off target. A minute later, Michael’s got the break when Cole McDonald showed coolness personified to split the posts for a superb point.
The city side certainly looked up for battle and they were rewarded with a superb goal two minutes later. A sweeping three-man move saw the ball fall into the path of Lee Kelly whose low shot found the back of the net.

The pressure was certainly on and when Tadgh Quirke kicked a wonderful point in the eighth minute, the southside outfit extended their lead to five. The biggest problem their opponents had was in failing to secure possession on high balls.
Heading in at half-time with a five-point lead, Michael's were in command.
The opening minutes after the restart were scrappy with both sides making some errors in the passing department.
There is little doubt Michael’s looked more dangerous going forward and they were rewarded with a classy point four minutes into the half.
A beautiful Tom Mulconry assist found Cole McDonald who finished in style with a stylish white flag.
The pressure continued and when Dylan Waters kicked Michael’s fourth point three minutes later, they looked a side in ascendancy.
When Kiltha Óg put pressure on Michael’s defence they handled it well, clearing the ball with precision to their centre-field players.
Mulconry showed his class with five minutes remaining when he latched onto a loose ball before kicking a long-range point.
Time wasn’t on the side of Kiltha Óg as Michael’s were crowned champions in style.

After the game the Michael’s manager Michael Mulconry spoke of his delight in winning the title.
“This is where it all starts for our club and you saw today we have some quality players coming through our underage programme,” Mulconry said.
