Douglas Hall team celebrate after winning the U19 Daly Cup at Munster FA Turner's Cross.

Douglas Hall were crowned U19 Daly Cup champions at Munster FA Turner's Cross Stadium on Friday night.

The teams met twice in the Daly Individual Supplies U19 League 1 with Carrigaline on top 4-0 at home in Ballea Park while it was 1-1 at Moneygourney. Despite that, Hall finished top of the table on 22 points with Carrigaline behind them in second place on 19.

After a very even first half with both sides having half-chances Hall led courtesy of a Ryan Mullin effort six minutes before half-time.

They were two up in the 64th minute when Man of the Match Eoin Gibson scored with a breakaway goal. Carrigaline pulled a goal back in the 78th minute when the impressive Rooney Nono headed home from a Christian McCarthy-Cleary free kick.

However, Gibson scored the Goal of the Game three minutes later to ensure Douglas Hall added the cup to the Daly Industrial Supplies U19 League Cup they won a few weeks ago.

The Hall had the first real chance of the game in the fifth minute when Gibson got a step on his defender and was through but slipped when he was just about to pull the trigger. Carrigaline had the ball in the net five minutes later but Charlie Crowley was adjudged to have handled it before he shot.

Carrig’s captain Benjamin O’Connell had an effort on target in the 27th minute. Crowley showed great control to chest the ball down to lay off a perfect pass but James O’Flaherty made a fine stop.

Gibson had a great chance in the 38th minute but Cillian Beale-O’Shaughnessy pushed his effort around the post. From the resultant corner, Ryan Mullin pounced on a loose ball to steer his effort into the net to put the Hall ahead.

Carrig started the second half on the front foot and had a superb chance in the 47th minute. O’Connell slipped Sean Turner through on goal with a sublime pass but Eoin Fitzpatrick recovered to make a very timely tackle to nick the ball off his toes.

They had another good opportunity in the 56th minute when Crowley let fly from outside the box but Beale-O’Shaughnessy pushed his effort around the post.

Hall then went up 2-0 against the run of play in the 64th minute. Gibson picked up a terrific pass from Larry Butler to expertly strike home past Beale-O’Shaughnessy.

Carrig centre-back Rooney Nono was having a fine game, showing great composure on the ball, and he reduced the deficit in the 78th minute. McCarthy-Cleary floated in a very dangerous free kick to the back post and Nono was on hand to head home.

However, it was 3-1 three minutes later when Gibson saw Beale-O’Shaughnessy off his line and struck his effort high into the roof of the net. That was enough to win their second trophy of the season.
