Cork captain Ian Maguire is expected to receive a proposed two-match ban, The Echo understands.

The St Finbarr’s player received a straight red card during the Rebels’ 1-23 to 1-21 win over Meath in the Allianz Division 2 Football League on Sunday afternoon.

Maguire was involved in an off-the-ball incident with Meath’s Adam O’Neill after 56 minutes at Páirc Uí Rinn.

The referee Conor Dourneen in his match report put Maguire’s sending off as ‘striking with force’.

It’s understood that Maguire will contest his suspension to the Central Hearings Committee on Wednesday.

If it was upheld, it would be a blow for the Rebels to lose Maguire. It would mean he will miss the game on Sunday against Derry at Find Insurance Celtic Park and 13 days later against Kildare on Leeside on Saturday, March 14.

John Cleary’s side are top of Division 2 with eight points after four matches.
