MTU Cork will face DCU Dóchas Éireann in the quarter-finals of the Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon following the Dublin college's defeat to the University of Limerick on Wednesday night.

With 12 teams in the competition this year, split into four groups of three, Group B - which contains MTU, UCC and Garda College - is paired with Group A in the knockout stages. Last year, UL beat DCU in the final and they secured a similar outcome on Wednesday, triumphing by 4-24 to 1-20 to finish top.

With MTU's wins over UCC and Garda having guaranteed them first place in Group B and a home quarter-final, they now know that DCU will be their visitors next week. Equally, UCC travel to Templemore this afternoon (2.30pm), knowing that the prize - an away clash with UL - is the toughest mission that could have been asked for in the quarters.

In Group C, the University of Galway finished top as they draw away to TUS Midwest, with UCD progressing in second place. The qualifiers from that group are paired with those of Group D, where Mary Immaculate College Limerick beat SETU Waterford, who in turn overcame ATU Galway. Mary I travel to Galway tonight, with the hosts needing a big win to force a three-way tie and advance on scoring difference.
