Podsie O’Mahony has left his role as manager of the Ballincollig footballers.

The former Cork player was in charge for six seasons having been appointed in the winter of 2019 as he replaced Tom Dorgan at the helm.

The Muskerry team were competitive in the Premier SFC during O’Mahony’s tenure. They qualified for the knockout stages every year apart from 2021 when they were very unlucky not to do so.

In that campaign, the two teams who finished above them in the group would battle it out in the final in St Finbarr’s and Clonakilty.

Ballincollig reached two semi-finals, 2022 and this year, where they lost to Nemo Rangers and St Finbarr’s respectively.

The Village last won the top-tier football championship in 2014, which was their first time winning it.

The team in green and white have a nice age profile at the moment. O’Mahony took over at what was a transitional time for Ballincollig with the hope now that the hard work that has been done in recent years will bear fruit under the new management set-up.

A spokesperson for Ballincollig GAA spoke to The Echo on O'Mahony's exit.

“We want to sincerely thank Podsie for his outstanding commitment and service to Ballincollig. His contribution over the past six years as manager has been greatly valued and we wish him every success in the future.

“Throughout six seasons, Podsie brought professionalism and dedication to the role, guiding the team through an important period of development and transition.

“The process to appoint a new management will now commence. Go raibh míle maith agat, Podsie.”

Ballincollig will discover their championship group stage opponents for 2026 on Tuesday, December 9 when the draws are made at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
