First-half goals put Fermoy in top spot in U17 league
The Mayfield United side that will play Carrigaline Union a Daly Industrial Supplies U19 League 1 fixture at Ballea Park on Sunday night at 6.30pm.
Fermoy continued their impressive form in the Daly Industrial Supplies U17 League 1when they beat Springfield Ramblers 5-3 at Carrig Park on Saturday night.
They were five goals to the good at half-time with Ino Szostak, Dylan Ahern, Stephen Barrett (2) and Tyler Sheehan all netting. However, the Rams scored three second-half goals through Lucas Van-Wejnen, Jamie Maher and Leon Davis.
Fermoy had done enough in the first half to move to the top of the table on 18 points after eight games.
In the same division, College Corinthians had a fine 3-1 victory against Leeside United at Castletreasure. Reece Kallides gave them a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute and Sean O’Brien doubled their advantage in the 38th minute.
Goalkeeper Lee Pardy was sent off in the 65th minute and Jack Abbott gave Leeside a lifeline in the 76th minute, but Kallides scored his second goal in the 86th minute to ensure they took all three points.
It was also a close affair in the Carrigaline United beat Mallow United at Ballea Park. The hosts went one up in the 11th minute through Dominic Pentony and they then doubled their lead in the 59th minute.
However, Darragh O’Connor hit the back of the net in the 84th minute to make sure it was a nervy finish and move above Mallow into second place.
Elsewhere in the U17 League 1A, Kilworth maintained their unbeaten run, with a convincing 7-2 victory against Fermoy at Sheila Flynn Park.
They led 3-2 at halftime with their goals coming from Benjamin Cummins and a brace from Ryan Whelan. Fermoy's Luke Donnellan, playing a captain's role, netted twice.
Kilworth added four more goals in the second half through Conor Lynch, Rian Noonan and Daryl Pierre before Whelan grabbed his hat-trick to stay on top of the table.
Midleton came to Leeside Park and came away with an impressive 5-1 victory against the hosts Leeside United.
Sean McLoughlin gave the Magpies the lead in the eighth minute, but Faolan O’Sullivan equalised in the 16th minute for the hosts. Hugh O’Loingsigh restored the advantage in the 25th minute.
They increased their lead 3-1 through Cathal Doyle in the 71st minute and Charlie McCarthy made it 4-1 in the 83rd minute. O’Loingsigh grabbed his second of the game for the Magpies to run out winners 5-1.
It was also a good day for the Magpies' U17 Premier side as they travelled to Ballea Park and came away with all three points with a 5-0 win over Carrigaline United. Goals from Ryan Cremin, Eduard Pidoyma, Cillian Mansworth-O’Connell and a brace from Parrick Adedokun saw them join Douglas Hall at the top of the table.
