Intermediate School Killorglin 1-19 (1-5-9) Patrician Academy Mallow 4-8 (4-2-4)

A two-point loss for Patrician Academy Mallow in the Bishopstown 4G on Wednesday - their second in the TUS Corn Uí Mhuirí Group 2 - leaves them bottom of the table.

Both IS Killorglin and Patrician Academy came looking for their first set of points, and once they settled despite conceding an early pair of goals, IS Killorglin were full value for the win.

Adam O’Neill struck 13 points for the winners, including four two-pointers. They needed all of them, because leaking four goals kept them under pressure, three of which were finished by Dylan O’Connell.

O'Neill drew IS Killorglin level for the first time three minutes from the break, and they would have been happy turning with the wind to assist in the second half, 0-10 to 3-1.

O’Neill’s peach of a two-pointer from the restart enabled IS Killorglin take the lead and significantly they sent over another two points without reply.

Ben O’Shea pulled a white flag back for the Academy, but Charlie Griffin showed his attacking skills in the 38th minute to slot an IS Killorglin goal after good work by Dylan Flynn.

When influential captain Éanna Murphy added a two-pointer from play, the gap had opened to seven points, 1-16 to 3-3.

Suddenly the Mallow students were back in it when Ryan Crowley found the distance with their first two-pointer, from a free.

Dylan O’Connell’s third goal in the 58th minute left it a three-point game.

O’Neill and Crowley exchanged two-pointer frees to keep the game in the melting pot.

A save from goalkeeper Adam Radny was vital in stoppage time, and with nine minutes added, Patrician Academy could only add another Crowley free.

Patrician Academy had first-half wind advantage and two O’Connell goals in the opening eight minutes gave them a healthy start.

John Murphy’s green flag in the 20th minute helped keep their noses in front, but they surrendered their lead before the break.
