Cork Hurling: Patrick Horgan, Mark Coleman and Ger Collins lead scoring ahead of county finals

With the silverware still to be settled, there are a few late challengers still in with a shout of topping the scoring charts across Cork’s top three hurling grades

Ahead of this weekend’s county hurling finals, it’s as good a time as any to take stock of the scoring charts – to see who’s set to take the crown, both from play and overall, and who might yet steal it at the death across the top three grades.

At Premier Senior level, Patrick Horgan remains the benchmark. His 5-39 for Glen Rovers speaks to enduring class, and truthfully, he’s all but home and hosed.

Colm McCarthy would need a 15-point swing in Sunday’s final against Midleton just to level it – a margin that might only come if we were headed for a replay. Conor Lehane, were it not for injury, might have had the legs to pass Horgan.

From play, Jack O’Connor looks untouchable on 1-22, comfortably clear of any challenger still standing. Daniel Hogan and Cormac Beausang are closest, but don’t even make the top 10.

In Senior A, there’s a far livelier race. Mark Coleman sits top on 2-37, but Adam Walsh is just nine points back – a gap well within reach for a free-taker of his calibre. Alan Fenton isn’t far behind either, sitting on 2-27.

The from-play battle is much the same. Bride Rovers versus Castlelyons. Brian Roche versus Anthony Spillane. Roche’s 4-15 gives the Cork senior a narrow cushion.

The Premier Intermediate grade brings its own subplot. A correction first – Ballinhassig’s Ger Collins, previously omitted from the top three prior to the semi-finals, now leads the way on 3-27. Only Ballincollig’s Brian Keating, seven points back, can reel him in, but that’s a stretch.

From play, it’s Dungourney’s Jack Leahy who leads on 0-17, but Ballincollig’s Cian O’Driscoll will fancy his chances – just three points off taking top spot with one more game to fire.
