Nemo Rangers have qualified for the decider of the AOS Security Seandún Junior A Football Championship for the third successive year, as they saw of the challenge of White’s Cross in their semi-final at Ballinlough.

White’s Cross, who were favoured by the elements in the opening half, made the better start, as they had a four-point lead before Nemo Rangers registered a single score. Nemo Rangers’ first goal was to prove decisive, while both sides scored two goals each after the interval.

Persistent fouling was proving to be costly from the start for Nemo Rangers as White’s Cross net-minder Rory Teehan opened the scoring with a two-pointer from a free within a minute of the throw-in. Conor Buckley also converted a free before Ruairí Quinlan got the game’s first score from play. Nemo Rangers began to turn the screw as Gavin Barrett opened their account with a point from play. Two further points by Darragh O'Sullivan and one from Eric Dilloughrey levelled matters at four points apiece.

Entering the second quarter, Nemo Rangers continued to have White’s Cross pinned back. A point by Bill Twohig put Nemo Rangers ahead for the first time.

Nemo Rangers were awarded a penalty, which Jason Lyons converted, to give Nemo Rangers a lead of 1-5 to 0-4.

White’s Cross responded with points from play by Fiachra O’Connell and Eddie Coughlan. Lyons and PJ O’Donovan exchanged points from play, to leave the half-time scoreline reading 1-6 to 0-7 in favour of Nemo Rangers.

Within two minutes of the restart, O’Sullivan tagged on a two-pointer from play for Nemo Rangers. Eddie Coughlan responded with his second point.

In the 37th minute, Twohig set up Lyons for Nemo Rangers’ second goal. Conor Buckley responded with a point for Whites Cross, but this was cancelled out by a point for Nemo Rangers by Jack O’Brien.

Conor Quinlan converted a free for White’s Cross and Lyons replied with a pointed 45. Lyons also added a point from play, before Barrett set up Aaron Browne for Nemo Rangers’ second goal.

White’s Cross responded instantly as Bobby O’Riordan set up Ronan Healy for a goal, which left the scoreline at 3-11 to 1-10 in favour of Nemo Rangers.

Eddie Coughlan tagged on his third point for White’s Cross.

White’s Cross were awarded a penalty, which Sean Delaney converted in the 54th minute to reduce the deficit to three points.

Nemo Rangers outscored White’s Cross by three points to two in the game’s dying minutes.
