Hibernians A progress to the second round of the Munster Junior Cup after a 4-1 victory over Glenthorn Celtic A

The Hibernians A side that had a 4-1 win over Glenthorn Celtic in the first round of the Munster Junior Cup at St. Aidan's School.
Both sides were locked in a 1-1 titanic battle for most of the contest, but when Anthony Keniry was sent from the field of play following a second yellow, Hibs took complete advantage of the space made available to them and ran out comfortable winners in the end.
Glenthorn threatened first as Paul Mooney crossed for Ciaran McCarthy who touched on to James Green to hook wide from the edge of the box.
Hibs then had their chance next when Tom McNamara played a neat pass through for Josh Tawadrous, but Jake Collins produced a solid block to deny the winger.

Play shifted to the other end soon after as James Green played it short to Ciaran McCarthy, who picked out Anthony Keniry to drill over from a narrow angle.
And from James Green’s free kick, Ciaran McCarthy headed over while unattended inside the box.
Tristian Foley won a solid tackle around the centre before releasing Ciaran McCarthy, who cracked a low effort narrowly wide.
McCarthy was in action again minutes later – this time, he struck an effort straight into the arms of Lloyd Fitzgerald.
Glenthorn were having the edge now in the contest and when Anthony Keniry got away on the left, he turned inside and forced Fitzgerald to parry as Jake Ryan steered the rebound out for a corner.
Glenthorn were enjoying plenty possession at this point now as Anthony Keniry saw his turn and strike flash wide of the far post.
Then, what a sensational goal we saw next as Ciaran McCarthy smashed an unstoppable strike that torpedoed into the top corner from around 30 yards out to score what was a wonderful opener on 38.
Minutes later, a half-chance fell for Hibs when Alan Walsh got away on the right, but after cutting inside, his low drilled effort never really bothered Jake Collins.
But, it was all square next when a lovely weighted pass from Alan Walsh played in Derek Heaphy, who found the bottom corner with a tidy finish on 43.
What a chance though fell for Glenthorn just seconds before the break, but from Anthony Keniry’s corner, David Roche headed over, just inches from the target.

Glenthorn imposed straight away as the second period took off and a chance fell for them when Ciaran McCarthy set James Green up for a real opportunity, but he could not produce the necessary accuracy to make his effort count.
Green threatened again minutes later and was unlucky when his looping effort over the advancing Lloyd Fitzgerald, hopped off the upright before going wide.
But, around the 70th minute when Anthony Kiniry was sent off for a second yellow, the tide turned in Hibs’ favour as Jake Collins had to be alert to stop an effort from Derek Heaphy.
Despite Hibs taking control of the game at this point, Dylan Long was so unlucky to see his effort clip the upright at the other end.
But, when Glenthorn’s defence failed to deal with Evan O’Leary’s free kick, Cory Griffin was on hand to stab home from close range.
And when Evan Barry was fouled inside the box on 88 minutes, Derek Heaphy got his second when he fired home competently from the spot to make it now 3-1.
Hibs’ confidence grew no end now as they mopped up the spare space being made available to them and with minutes left, Corey Griffin drilled home their fourth – 4-1 to Hibs A.
