CWSSL offer Cork businesses an opportunity to support their cup competitions through sponsorship

Cara Bonar, Leeside AFC, receives the Player of the Match award from Muireann McHale, CWSSL.
The Cork Women and School Girls Soccer Leagues are opening to sponsorship for their domestic cup competitions as business is booming with over 5,000 signed up to clubs across the Rebel County.
Chairperson Brian Murphy sees this as a great way for business to get involved in the competitions now famous for producing a senior Republic of Ireland internationals Denise O’Sullivan, Megan Connolly, and Saoirse Noonan.
“Over the last number of years – the girls game has grown astronomically so we have increased the number of cup competitions,” Murphy talked about the sponsorship programme.
“We have an U12s, U13, U14s, and pre-Christmas we do a bowl.
"It gives a lot more teams a chance to get to a final. We’d like to get them into a stadium if possible, either it would be on in MTU or St Colman’s Park.
"So, with the more cups that we have, there will be more chances that players will have a big day.
“With the big day then it’s getting to walk out, getting to hear the national anthem being played, and getting to hear their name called out.
"The underage also have big crowds at their finals.

“Over the last couple of years it has grown massively and it has become an integral part of our year, especially the ones pre-Christmas.
"Last year was the first year that we had them and it was a real success with the crowds and everything. When there wasn’t as many there were all at May time.
"There wasn’t as many teams and we were at uneven ages, now we’re at all the ages from 12s, 13, 14s, 15s, 16s, 17s, 18s, and 19s.
“There’s a lot more of them and it is easier for us to manage having some pre-Christmas as well.
"We found that the clubs find it great having them at that time of year.
“What we are saying to businesses is to support girls soccer. It is a winning way to align your business with the community, growth, and sport.
“We have over 200 teams competing in the cups and we feel that this would be a great way to align business to our league to the CWSSL brand. "It think it would be great for local businesses with a community spirit and the CWSSL.”
This comes at a time of rapid growth for the Cork Women and School Girls Soccer Leagues.
“The numbers are growing massively,” the chairperson explained.
“We have the bowl, the plate, and the cups. The cups would have been the big ones, because we have the plate and the bowls they have become just as big because there are so many leagues.”
