Cork City conceded two first-half goals at Dalymount Park on Saturday in the Women’s Premier Division.

Craig Robinson’s side matched their Dublin counterparts but close-range finishes from Alannah McEvoy and Leiagh Glennon were their undoing.

The great hope was that City would build on last week’s draw with DLR Waves at Turner’s Cross, while catching out a Bohemians outfit reeling from their penalty shoot-out defeat to Wexford in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup final.

A version of this came true with a back-line of Shaunagh McCarthy, Zoe Finnerty, and Ciara McNamara working in tandem to frustrate the home side for large periods. There were chances, like efforts from McEvoy and Aoibhe Brennan, and those caused no fuss.

At the other end of the pitch, City were able to win two corners but none of these translated into a meaningful shot early on.

Then came a Hannah O’Brien cross to the near post and McEvoy nodded this in with no resistance in the 13th minute.

The Rebel Army immediately pushed up in an attempt to get a quick equaliser and with that came Christina Dring flicking the ball wide inches wide.

The Gypsies hit back with two quick chances, starting with Savannah Kane testing her luck and shooting straight into the hands of Clodagh Fitzpatrick. Hannah O’Brien followed that up by latching onto a squared pass and firing over from right in front of the posts with just the goalkeeper to beat.

City came through this spell unscathed and set up Eva Mangan for an effort that was pushed out for a corner that came to nothing by Rachael Kelly.

The Gypsies went on to get a second goal through a low Hannah O’Brien pass to an unmarked Glennon at the far post in the 36th minute.

A simple finish was enough to poke the ball passed Fitzgerald and Bohemians went into the break leading 2-0.

The Rebel Army picked themselves up at the restart and managed to win a corner, and Mangan’s in-swinging set-piece narrowly missed a swarm of white jerseys inside the area.

Fitzgerald was then called into action to deal with a low Kane strike at the Des Kelly Stand at the near post.

Things sparked with that, and never ignited for either team as the game fizzled out.

City did cause problems for Bohemians, mostly through Aine Walsh running at their defence.

The Gypsies did try and get one more and the best they could do was Alex Devoy rattling the cross bar in injury time.
