The second week of the Cork football championships has left the scoring charts from play across the top three grades pulling in very different directions.

At Premier Senior, the landscape is oddly flat. The top four scorers remain unchanged, still driven by divisional muscle. No club footballer has managed more than eight from play – Clonakilty’s Conor Daly (2-2) and Valley Rovers’ Fiachra Lynch (0-8) – totals that wouldn’t break into the top five in Senior A or Premier Intermediate.

The contrast is stark. Chris Óg Jones, already with 5-8 for Uibh Laoire in Premier Intermediate, sits on 23 points from play. That figure would have ranked him fifth overall in last year’s entire championship. He has got there in two outings.

Premier Senior may not have caught fire just yet, but the gap to Luke Murphy’s 2-9 for Duhallow is closing, but he remains first for now ahead of teammate Jack Curtin in second with 3-1, and Olan O’Donovan’s 1-5 for Carbery.

Chris Óg spends another week in two of the three charts, having scored 2-2 for Muskerry, the same as Daly has accumulated from play for Clon.

Lynch is now sixth just behind him, ahead of Bryan Hayes from Nemo, who is tied for seventh with Liam O’Connor, Jack Cahalane and Mark Collins, all of whom have scored a total of seven from play.

The Senior A championship is now led by Conor Corbett, with his 2-6 for Clyda Rovers the best from play. He takes first spot from Cill na Martra’s Ciarán Ó Duinnín, who’s got 1-7 so far.

Corbett’s clubmate Eoin Walsh remains third with 1-6, but is now tied with Diarmuid Mac Thomáis of Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh and Knocknagree’s Anthony O’Connor.

Gary O’Callaghan of Fermoy and Odhran Foley from Bishopstown each have 2-2 from play after two rounds, while eighth to tenth is occupied by Cathal Browne, Niall O’Connor and Simon Collins.

Chris Óg’s 5-8 from play leaves him with a total of 23 points from play, ten points clear of nearest challenger Luke Casey, who’s been flying for Aghabullogue and has a total of 2-7 so far.

After a superb showing from Jack Coogan last weekend, the Nemo Rangers footballer moves to third, a point behind Casey.

Aghada’s Diarmuid Byrne jumps from eighth to fourth after finding the back of the net for a second consecutive game, while Bandon’s Michael Cahalane and Ed Ó Mir of Naomh Abán are tied for fifth.
