Glanmire's championship debut in Seandún ends in defeat after entertaining game against Nemo

Referee Cormac Dineen accompanied by captains Brian Kelleher (Glanmire) and Gavin Barrett (Nemo Rangers) before the Seandún JAFC match at Ballinlough.

Nemo Rangers completed their group programme in the AOS Security Seandún Junior A Championship with a win as they defeated Glanmire at Ballinlough. 

They're back in contention for a place in the knock-out stages, while Glanmire have to play Bishopstown.

Glanmire, who were making their debut in the Seandún Championship, made the better start with four two-pointers. Nemo Rangers’ first-half goal brought them back into contention as the sides finished the opening half on level terms. The Trabeg side got two late goals at the end of an evenly contested second half.

Naoise Marron opened the scoring with a two-pointer for Glanmire, before Matthew Keenan responded for the Trabeg side with a point from play. Glanmire continued to have Nemo Rangers pinned back as Marron and Timmy O’Donohgue scored unanswered two-pointers. Dave McCarthy also added an orange flag from a free, which gave Glanmire a lead of 0-8 to 0-1.

The Trabeg side began to turn the screw as Gavin Barrett and Fiachra Twohig each tagged on unanswered points. Jack O’Brien also chipped in with a free. McCarthy scored a point from play before Fiachra Twohig set up Jason Lyons for the game’s opening goal in the 22nd minute.

Nemo Rangers scored three unanswered points, before James Murphy converted a free, to tie the scores at 0-10 to 1-7 at the break.

James Murphy put Glanmire ahead with a point within a minute of the resumption before the Trabeg side seized the initiative. They added five unanswered points before Barrett got their only two-pointer in the 42nd minute.

Lyons added a further point for Nemo Rangers, before the tide turned back in Glanmire’s favour. Glanmire got four unanswered points, including two frees.

The Trabeg side put the game beyond Glanmire's reach with late goals by Lyons and O’Brien.
