Carbery 2-18 Seandún 1-8 

Divisional sides Carbery and Seandún got the SE Systems Senior Camogie Championship up and running in Castle Road, a game the West Cork side controlled.

Playing with the aid of the stiff breeze, Carbery led 0-9 to 0-2 at the interval. Moira Barrett got them off the mark with a point inside 45 seconds, with Millie Condon and Barrett adding to their tally by the fifth minute.

Carbery were strong in key areas. Libby Coppinger was commanding at centre-back, Millie Condon covered huge ground at midfield and up front, Barrett, Sinead Hurley and Amy McCarthy posed huge threats.

Maria O'Neill had denied Carbery a goal with a superb save from Barrett before Seandún were on the scoreboard with Lauren Homan converting a free. Amy McCarthy then scored before another Homan free but Maria O'Neil again came to the rescue to deny Carbery a goal.

Carbery were getting plenty of supply to their inside line and four points without reply from Barrett, Hurley, Sarah Burrows and McCarthy had them six in front.

On the resumption, Carbery continued to hold the upper hand and by the end of the third quarter they had stretched their lead with five unanswered points. McCarthy, Karen O'Sullivan, Barrett and Meabh O'Brien were all on target. 

Barrett was then denied a goal with her driving shot coming off the crossbar but with Burrows firing the rebound over, the Carbery lead was now 10.

Homan and Cassandra Fitzgerald responded for Seandún but a superb goal from the impressive Condon meant there was no comeback. 

Homan was twice on target before Jessica O'Connor rattled the Carbery net with with eight minutes remaining.

Yet they finished stronger, adding three points to their tally in response to one from the city side.
