Heroic second-half effort wasn't rewarded at Croke Park

Amy Lee: Couldn’t be faulted for the goal and overall her puck-outs were impressive. Was fouled at one point from which Galway scored. Played her part in the second-half fightback. 6

Pamela Mackey: Worked and worked all through and like lots of the Cork defence didn’t actually play badly at all. She is a sticky defender and one that most forwards don’t like to have marking them. The same could be said on Sunday as she battled all the way to the end. 6

Libby Coppinger: A warrior. She showed it again on Sunday. When things were going against Cork in the first half, she led by example and cleared ball after ball. Not too many forwards get the better of her and the same can be said of this final. Arguably, Cork’s best player. 8

Meabh Cahalane: Played a captain’s part all through and again had far from a bad game. She never lets Cork down and gives it everything from start to finish. When the Rebels staged the second-half comeback, she made some great tackles. 7

Aoife Healy: Was Cork’s spare player for a lot of the first half with Galway using a sweeper. A consistent performer who never lets you down and doesn’t get the credit she deserves at times. 7

Laura Treacy: Another Rebel who came storming into contention when Cork needed leaders.

One of the best readers of the game on many an occasion this performance would have seen her on the winning side. 7

Laura Hayes: Got a great point in the second half, one that put only the goal between the sides and was a big score at the time. Defended well all through. 7

Hannah Looney: Had started well and got Cork’s first point and was holding her own in midfield, until that moment of madness. When Cork were struggling having a player sent off was never going to help, what was an uphill battle even before she saw red. 5

Ashling Thompson: When Cork needed someone to stand up to the physicality of Galway then they don’t come much better than Thompson. She doesn’t back down ever and that was key in the second half as Cork almost got another day out. 7

Emma Murphy: Made some great runs and was the only Cork forward to point from play for the entire game.

Actually grabbed two super scores. A young player that has a bright future in front of her in the Rebel red. 7

Orlaith Cahalane: Was well marked by the Galway defence, some would argue was overmarked, but they got away with it. But just like all good players you can never keep them quiet for an entire game and came up with the goal that looked like seeing it end in a draw. 7

Saoirse McCarthy: Ran and ran all day, tormenting the Galway defence in the second half and was fouled for many of the converted frees. Had to move to midfield after Looney’s sending off and didn’t let her side down. 7

Katrina Mackey: Again was well marked by Galway for much of the game and was not as effective as she can be. But worked hard until she was taken off early in the second half. 6

Sorcha McCartan: Seemed a bit nervous early on, but will always be a player that any defence fears facing. Her physicality scares most defenders but it just wasn’t her day. 6

Amy O’Connor: Played despite pulling her hamstring last Saturday and you could see at times that her movement was not as good as it normally is. But she gave it everything until she was taken off. 6

SUBS

Clodagh Finn: Made a difference when she came on and one could argue that she was fouled late on that would have sent the game to a replay. 6

Orlaith Mullins: Caused Galway a few problems when she was brought on and is another with a bright future with Cork. 6

Cliona Healy, Meabh Murphy and Kate Wall: On too late to make any real difference.
