A thrilling RedFM Division 1 Hurling League draw at the Glen Field with a late Sean Walsh point giving Carrigtwohill a share of the spoils.
On a dreary and wet evening at the famous northside venue, both sides produced 60 minutes of gripping hurling that had the large attendance on their feet from start to finish.
Cork legend Patrick Horgan featured in his second game this spring and his 1-13 tally showed his class. Carrigtwohill also had a sharpshooter in Sean Walsh, who finished with 2-9 and having been on the fringes of the Cork set-up showed he has a bit to offer as he possesses bundles of energy and shooting skills.
The opening exchanges were played at a frantic pace and consecutive Horgan points had the sides level at 0-3 each in the seventh minute. When Dean Brosnan delivered a pinpoint pass to Horgan in the 13th minute, he finished an explosive shot to the roof of the net.
The Glen were a bit too open at the back over the hour and a minute later, they allowed Cillian Barry solo through to raise the visitors' first green flag.
Soon after Walsh got in for a second Carrigtwohill goal and East Cork side's work-rate was paying off.
Credit to the hosts, they knuckled down and held Carrigtwohill scoreless for the closing seven minutes of the half and a late Lee Quilligan white flag saw the lead 1-14 to 2-8.
On the restart, the tempo increased again and Carrigtwohill hit their third goal just two minutes into the half. Once again, the pace of Walsh saw him sprint clear of the Glen defenders to bat an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net.
Horgan's quick thinking paid off when the Glen were awarded a 40-yard free from an acute angle and he decided to make a quick pass to Mark Dooley, who billowed the back of the net with a ferocious shot.
Any time the Glen looked to be taking control, Carrigtwohill responded and a fourth goal through Daniel Nolan with 12 minutes remaining proved to be a crucial score.
The outstanding Horgan drilled over a superb free in the final minute and the northsiders led by the minimum. The other main man on the night hadn't finished yet though with Walsh securing the draw for Carrigtwohill.
