Last year’s beaten Co-op SuperStores finalists Erin’s Own got off to a winning start in this year’s competition as they overcame Ballygiblin on Sunday afternoon.
The Group 3 meeting of the 2022 and 2023 Premier JHC winners at Castlelyons finished 2-22 to 2-19 in favour of the Caherlag side.
Oran O’Regan and Shane Irwin featured heavily among the scores for the victors, scoring 1-6 and 1-2 respectively, while Kieran Murphy scored six points. Seán O’Sullivan scored both of Ballygiblin’s goals, with Darragh Flynn landed eight points.
Also in that section, Aghada drew with Kildorrery in Caherlag. Will Leahy scored 0-14 of Aghada’s 1-22, the goal scored by Fionn O’Connor, while Kieran Hurley and James Keating each scored goals as Kildorrery finished with 2-19. Peter O’Brien contributed six points for the north Cork outfit.

In Group 1 on Sunday, Midleton opened with victory over Mayfield in Riverstown. Aaron Mulcahy scored 0-13 as the Magpies triumphed by 0-22 to 0-16, with Nicky Kelly weighing in with nine points for the city side.
The other game in that group saw Bandon get a 3-18 to 0-19 victory over last year’s premier junior champions. Jack Cullinane scored two goals for the Lilywhites in Riverstick as Conor Calnan also netted, while Mike Cahalane had eight points. Twelve of the Russell Rovers points were scored by Josh Beausang.
Group 2 opened on Saturday night with a 3-22 to 0-15 victory for Sarsfields against Youghal in Cloyne. Barry O’Flynn and Daniel Kearney combined for 15 points for Sars, whose goals were scored by Rory O’Brien (two) and Darragh Long. Brett Moloney finished with nine points for Youghal.
On Sunday, Aghabullogue – relegated from premier intermediate last year – got off to a winning start as they beat Blackrock by 2-21 to 1-13 in Ballincollig. James Lane and Luke Casey raised green flags for the Coachford side, for whom Matthew Bradley scored seven points. Lee O’Sullivan got the Blackrock goal.

At premier junior level, Charlie Twomey’s free-taking sights were in as he contributed six points in the 0-18 to 0-13 win over last year’s junior A champions, Tracton. John Michael O’Callaghan scored five points while Tracton’s goal was courtesy of a penalty by Ronan Walsh, who also weighed in on the point-scoring front.
Kilbrittain were able to call on important scores from Mark Hickey, Bertie Butler and Josh O'Donovan as they saw off Barryroe by 0-22 to 1-15, while Seán O'Leary, Ciarán Canty and Aidan Murphy all netted in Cloughduv's 3-20 to 0-17 triumph against Nemo Rangers.
Elsewhere, Ballygarvan were 1-23 to 0-20 winners over Milford, with Michael Cussen scoring 1-3 while Kevin Lyons and Cillian O’Regan also impressed.
