Ballyphehane collect their second piece of silverware in a week as they defeat Glanmire to win the Terence McSwiney Cup
The victorious Ballyphehane team.
Ballyphehane collected their second piece of silverware as they defeated Glanmire to claim the Cork City Council Terence McSwiney Cup from an exciting decider before a sizeable attendance at Ballinlough.
This is to add to the McCarthy Insurances Confined Junior B Football Championship, which was won last week against Araglen at Mallow.
In a low-scoring opening half, both sides resorted to defensive tactics as goal-scoring opportunities were at a premium, with both goalkeepers producing some spectacular saves.
Ballyphehane raised their game for the second half as they held Glanmire scoreless for the third quarter, while both sides got 0-4 each in the final quarter.

Playing with the aid of a slight breeze in the opening half, Glanmire made the better start, courtesy of unanswered points from play by David McCarthy and Rory McCarthy.
Midway through the opening half, Glanmire found themselves on the back foot as Robbie Wyse opened Ballyphehane’s account with a point from play.
This was followed by further points by Adam O’Donoghue and Cian O’Brien, which gave Ballyphehane a 0-3 to 0-2 advantage.
John Grandon equalised with a point from play for Glamire in the 28th minute.
Eoghan Murphy set up Brian Galvin for the game’s opening goal, to give Glanmire a three-point advantage.
This was followed by a pointed free by David McCarthy, which gave Glanmire an interval lead of 1-4 to 0-3.
Ballyphehane upped the ante after the interval and they were awarded a penalty within two minutes of the restart.
Troy O’Sullivan goaled to reduce the deficit to a single point.
Craig Murphy got the game’s only two-pointer in the 33rd minute, to put Ballyphehane back in the driving seat by a point.
Persistent fouling was proving to be costly for Glanmire as Robbie Wyse got Ballyphehane’s first score from a placed-ball.
Craig Murphy added two unanswered points to give Ballyphehane a five-point advantage.
Entering the final quarter, James Murphy converted a free, to get Glanmire’s first score of the second half, but this was cancelled out when Craig Murphy pointed a free for Ballyphehane.
Rory McCarthy reduced the margin to three points with a point from play, before Craig Murphy converted his second free.
Points from Brian Kelleher followed by one from a free by James Murphy, brought Glanmire within two points of Ballyphehane, before Ballyphehane sealed the result, with unanswered points by Craig Murphy and Paul Mullins.
