St Finbarr’s have booked their league final spot in Division 1 of the McCarthy Insurance Group Football League.

The City side were due to play their last game of the regular league campaign on Saturday at home to Newcestown.

The Cork County Board were notified on Thursday morning that Newcestown had conceded the contest meaning Brian Roche’s team are now top of the pile on 16 points.

Newcestown are after a great league season, currently sitting fourth ahead of the other games, but were out of the top two picture going into the final round of fixtures.

Who will join the Barrs in the decider? Clonakilty are fancied to join them, but they aren’t in action until Sunday week (29th) against Castlehaven. The Brewery Town are on 14 points, two points clear of third-placed Nemo Rangers.

The Trabeg-based outfit can apply pressure if they win at home against St Michael’s this evening (7.30pm). If they were to do so, Clon would have to pick up a positive result against the Haven in order to qualify for the final.

A loss would result in Nemo sneaking into second spot on the head-to-head rule, granted they do their own job later on today.
