FAI Cup Second Round Draw: Cork City and Cobh Ramblers handed favourable ties 

Cork City will kickstart their 2025 FAI Cup campaign with a game with Leicester Celtic, with the tie set to be played on the weekend ending July 20th at Turner’s Cross.

Cobh Ramblers were also in the hat and Mick McDermott’s side will face Bangor Celtic away from home.

UCC are the sole representatives of the Munster Senior League in the competition and Noel Healy’s side will come up against St Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park.

The draw was also made for the Women’s FAI Cup and Cork City will welcome Peamount United to Turner’s Cross.

Gerard Nash’s team will go into the second round aiming to reach the final for the first time since 2018, when they lost to Dundalk at the Aviva Stadium.

Cobh Ramblers last run in the competition came during the 2016 season as the reached the quarter finals.

The group of players managed by Stephen Henderson faced St Patrick’s Athletic on that occasion and lost 3-2 at Richmond Park.

Since then, there’s been a number of near misses and false starts in the FAI Cup, with the latest defeat coming against Kerry FC at St Colman’s Park in 2024.

The College, who stayed up in the Premier Division through the play-offs, got this far by defeating local rivals Ringmahon Rangers 3-1 last May.

Frank Kelleher’s team will go into this edition of the competition aiming to go one better than their run to the semi-finals last year.

That group of players, managed by Danny Murphy, defeated Douglas Hall and Bohemians on their way to a meeting with eventual winners Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Kelleher is in charge this season and the coach made his name locally by managing City to victory in the 2017 Women’s FAI Cup, by overseeing a 1-0 victory over DLR Waves at the Aviva Stadium.

This will be the third meeting of the year between the two teams and it follows victories for Peamount in the Women’s Premier Division and Avenir Sports All-Island Cup.
