Cork Youth League capture the Munster Inter-Youth league cup title with a big win over Kerry in the final

The Cork Youth League were crowded Munster Youth Inter-League Cup champions when they convincingly beat the Kerry District League at Charleville Astro Pitch last Saturday evening.

Cork dominated the majority of the first half and led at half time by four goals to nil with a early Kai O’Neill goal and then three goals in a four minute spell by Eoin Gibson, Joe Mouret and Ty Corcoran setting them up for the win.

The second half the Kerry side put up an incredible fight with Noah and Conor Lucey getting on the scoresheet, however, Cork also added two goals from the man of the match Corcoran and O’Neill to win 6-2.

The Cork side had the first real chance of the game when Ty Corcoran forced a fine save from Kerry’s keeper JJ O’Rourke from a free kick from the edge of the box after only two minutes.

Cork continued to dominate proceedings playing some lovely one touch football and when Finn Hagermark made a telling run out of the back line his effort went narrowly over the bar. 

They did go in front in the 12th minute, Corcoran made a great run down the right wing and Kai O’Neill saw on hand to steer the ball home to lead 1-0. 

Corcoran was very prominent for the Cork side and when he skipped past two of Kerry defenders he was denied by O’Rourke who made a fine stop with his feet. 

The Kerry had a decent chance to levelling the game in the 24th minute, Ryan O’Driscoll pounced on a loose ball, however, his powerful effort sailed over the bar. 

Cork came close again to increasing their lead on the half hour mark when Joe Mouret took a short corner to Corcoran and he stung the hands of O’Rourke with a powerful drive from the edge of the box. 

After another good passage of play by Cork, Colm Harte squared a delightful ball for Mouret, however, O’Rourke made another superb save at his near post. 

Cork did increase their lead 2-0 in the 41st minute, Corcoran crossed for Eoin Gibson to score from close range. 

They were 3-0 up a minute after later this time Corcoran got his reward for his hard work to score a superb solo effort. 

Things got worse for the Kerry side a minute from half time when Mouret stroked home an Evan Cummins through ball for Cork to lead 4-0.

It didn’t take the Cork lads long to increase their lead in the second half when Cummins played another perfect through ball for Corcoran and he expertly steered home to for his seventh goal now in this competition and his side to lead 5-0 in the 48th minute. 

Kerry did pull a goal back five minutes later to trail 5-1 when Noah O’Shea scored a fine individual goal. Cork increased their lead 6-1 in the 64th minute when O’Neill scored his second goal of the game with a powerful drive from outside the box.

Corcoran came close grabbing his hat-trick six minutes later when he latched on to a loose ball but his powerful effort crashed off the post. To give the Kerry side credit they kept battled away and they pulled another goal back to trail 6-2 in the 83rd minute when Conor Lucy scored from close range.
