Cork’s Allianz Division 2 football league fixture away to Monaghan has been brought forward to Saturday following a request from both counties.
The game was due to take place on Sunday but will now be played a day earlier in the same venue, Inniskeen, with throw-in at 2.30pm. Met Éireann is forecasting a very wet and windy day on Sunday.
It's a crucial fixture with both teams sitting on four points after three games. The Rebels will be travelling up north on the back of a one-point home win over Westmeath last Saturday, while Monaghan will be looking to respond after losing away to high-flying Roscommon by five points.
When both teams come together at the weekend, it will be the first time in nine years that they will lock horns in the league.
Back then, it was a Division 1 clash. The Rebels were unlucky to get relegated that year and unfortunately haven’t returned to date. Monaghan's 10-year stay in the top tier of the league came to an end last year.
The Rebels were impressive in the 1-20 to 1-13 success over the Farney men in Páirc Uí Rinn on a day when not many would have predicted that the Rebels would be relegated a few weeks later. There were four teams tied on six points with Cork losing out on scoring difference.
There are four players wearing the Rebel geansaí today from that win in 2016, Brian O’Driscoll, Ian Maguire, Brian Hurley and Ruairí Deane.
