Danny Murphy has left Cork City with immediate effect – three months after signing a new contract with the Rebel Army.
The players were informed at a meeting on Tuesday evening, on the eve of their first preseason training session.
It is unclear who will take over long-term, with the squad set to open their campaign with a game against Peamount United in Dublin on March 8th.
This comes on the back of a season that saw the club reach the Women’s FAI Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2020 and finish 9th in the Women’s Premier Division.
The coach was originally appointed in May 2022 after working with Welling United as their Head of Academy.
Murphy was set to continue his stay at Turner’s Cross with a contract that would have kept him at the club until the end of the 2026 Women’s Premier Division season.
The coach will be remembered for his performance in the cups as he guided the club to two semi-finals while in charge.
That started with the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup with City topping their group last year after defeating DLR Waves, Treaty United, and Cruaders.
Their campaign ended with a narrow loss to a Cllifftonville side filled with Northern Ireland internationals in Belfast.
That was followed by a run to the semi-finals of the Women’s FAI Cup, which included a memorable victory over Bohemians at Turner’s Cross.
City also enjoyed victories over Shamrock Rovers and defending champions Peamount United last term.
Club captain Eva Mangan also played her way into the Republic of Ireland WNT squad for UEFA Nations League games with Sweden, England, and France.
