Promising young Cork hurlers Brian O'Sullivan and Jack Leahy featured as a powerful University of Limerick outfit outclassed DCU in the Senior Division 1 Hurling League final.

Kanturk midfielder O'Sullivan, an All-Ireland U20 winner in 2020 and '21 under current Cork senior boss Pat Ryan, was also involved in the UL side that landed the Fitzgibbon Cup two years ago along with Courcey Rovers' Seán Twomey.

Leahy, outstanding for his club Dungourney and the Imokilly team that lifted the Cork Premier Senior Hurling crown, was an All-Ireland U20 medalist in 2023. Known for his clinical free-taking Leahy rifled 0-4 from play in UL's 0-25 to 0-15 over DCU.

O'Sullivan and Leahy were both selected in this season's Rearden's Club Hurling All-Star 15, with the awards ceremony taking place on December 27.

They are expected to be involved with the Cork hurlers from here as Pat Ryan and his selectors look at some fresh options.

UL, who beat UCC in the semi-final, are one of the front-runners for the Fitzgibbon Cup with the likes of Tipp's Gearóid O'Connor and Limerick's Colin Coughlan, Adam English and Cathal O'Neill to the fore. O'Neill did come off late with a hamstring injury in the league final though, which could hinder his participation.

DEDICATED

On the football front, UCC were 0-21 to 2-13 victors over DCU in the Division 1 final.

Their captain Killian Falvey dedicated the success to manager Billy Morgan, who was absent on the night. The Kerry native landed 0-5 from play while Cormac Dillon also had five points, one from a mark.

From a Cork perspective, Newmarket's Hugh O'Connor, a dual inter-county U20, kicked three frees while St Mary's Olan Corcoran bagged 0-3 from play.

Late points from Cathal Ó Beaglaoich and Fionn Desmond, late on, proved critical as the College captured the Ryan Cup on the road. Clonakilty's Dan Peet and Chris Kenneally started in the full-back line with Diarmuid Phelan (Aghada) at centre-back and Ballinora's Neil Lordan on the wing.
