Business League: Close shave for Jay Bazz
Jay Bazz Barbers who overcame EVcore Gym 2-1 in their CBL Shield last sixteen encounter at Mayfield Park last Sunday
Jay Bazz left it very late to come away with the win in the live featured match at Mayfield Park.
Both teams found it extremely difficult to cope with the blustery, swirling overhead conditions throughout and it came as no surprise that goal-scoring chances were kept to a minimum. However, once Jamie O’Driscoll put the Barbers one up in the 68th minute, Dylan Scott drew EVcore level only for David Dunlea to score the priceless winner in added time.
In an early meeting of the top two, Swyft continue to show the way after going behind twice to goals from Juan De Villa and levelling through Dylan O’Donoghue and Morgan O’Connor. O’Connor majestically strode up from centre-back to set up ace marksman John Corcoran to score a spectacular 62nd-minute winner.
Suro hit former Premier Division winners Marlboro Trust for six in their first encounter at Mayfield Community School. Colm Daly evaded a last-ditch tackle from Tom Frawley to open the scoring in the seventh minute. With Marlboro coming more into the game as the half progressed, home keeper Paudie Morris spilled a stinging drive which allowed Kevin O’Brien to grab a second on the stroke of half-time.
Daly fired in the third in the 52nd minute followed by a fourth from Paul Collins four minutes later. Within a minute Callan Dempsey got in for a fifth with Fintan Cadogan rounding off proceedings with the game’s final goal in the 78th minute.
The Weigh Inn continue to keep the pressure on early leaders Martin Harvey Solicitors after a first-half hat-trick from Ivan Milicevic was followed by second-half goals from Roger Zaragoza and sub Billy Kelly at The Regional Park.
Leaders DCT remain unbeaten after goals from Steven O’Mahony (3), Nigel Keating (2), David O’Sullivan, Eoin Field and Kelvin O’Mahony made it four wins on the trot. Zhaojung Li scored for the Tigers.
Patrick Clifford’s hat-trick was the difference between the teams at the finish as Stryker came up short despite a goal in either half from Edward Byrne and Jack Walsh.
Arthur Filadelfi Wohlers scored in the first half for Sabor before Adriano Oliveira De Santos and Kaoi Ribeiro De Jesus tagged on further goals in the 63rd and 85th minutes.
Dmytro Bielan and Vladyslav Skubak exchanged goals with The LAB’s Kuba Hofft and Callum Power in the first league meeting between the teams.
Council went two down in the first half to goals from Ciaran Murphy and Dylan O’Neill but halved the deficit on the resumption through Ross Daly. Bosco’s got back on track when O’Neill scored from the penalty spot leaving Safiw Jabaru to seal victory for the Cork AUL outfit with a fourth late on.
Celtic got off to the perfect start when player-manager James Corcoran converted Mohammed Vangahun’s cross to net inside the first minute. However, after Jamie O’Connor equalised in the 24th minute, the host’s greater experience told in the second 45 when O’Connor (2), Jimmy O’Brien and Jonathan Quilligan tagged on further goals.
In a high-scoring first 45, the Hospitals took a fourth-minute lead through Tadgh Whelan but within six minutes found themselves 2-1 down after Micheal Doody had netted twice by the 10th minute. However, four unanswered goals from Whelan (2), Cathal Murphy and Jamie O’Neill sent the hosts in leading 5-2 at the break. Further goals from Whelan and Adrian Chapman stretched the lead to 7-2 at the finish.
DHF Grangevale put the previous weekend’s cup defeat firmly behind them by toppling AUL Premier A side Glenthorn Celtic in the re-arranged fixture at Crosshaven.
Ollie O’Sullivan opened the scoring for the hosts with a fine finish from distance in the 16th minute. An exquisite piece of skill by new signing Aaron O’Sullivan, when he took the ball down on his chest from Andy O’Gorman’s cross before side-stepping an opponent and scoring in the 33rd minute, followed by an equally stunning finish by the former Abtran and Wilton United talisman nine minutes from time to set up a much anticipated third round clash with Cork Hospitals.
AUL Premier champions Grattan United scored twice in the first 27 minutes through Cian Hawkins and Kian O’Sullivan to leave ASH with an uphill battle to rescue a tie which ultimately proved insurmountable for the home side.
