It was tight but Glanmire came out on top against Boherbue in their McCarthy Insurance IAFC clash at Mourneabbey.

Their win meant they took scoring differences out of the equation as they now top the group, with Boherbue also going through.

There was massive pressure on Glanmire coming into this decider as they knew a loss would have opened the door for St Finbarr’s, but full credit to the east Cork side they did what they had to do.

Afterwards the relief and delight was evident amongst both the players and management as they knew this was a battle and a win that will give them plenty of confidence for the knockout stages.

Playing with the wind David Lynch put Glanmire in front in the first minute from a free, with Cian O’Donovan adding a second four minutes later.

John Corkery got Boherbue off the mark and a point from Liam Moynihan after eight minutes had the sides level.

However that proved to be Boherbue’s last score of the half.

Lynch put his side back in front and he added another from a free, to make it 0-4 to 0-2.

A Timmy O’Donoghue free extended Glanmire’s lead and just before the half-time whistle Conor Crowley scored, to make it 0-6 to 0-2 at the break.

Now with the wind, it was a case of seeing could Boherbue close the gap. And they did.

Two frees from David O’Connor reduced the deficit, with Gerry O’Sullivan putting one between the sides.

With 45 minutes gone, Boherbue were back on level terms when Corkery scored, to make it 0-6 apiece.

Credit to Glanmire they responded with points from Darren Kenneally and James Crowley making it 0-8 to 0-6.

Corkery responded for Boherbue, with David McCarthy responding for Glanmire.

A 45 in injury time by Glanmire keeper Brendan O’Connell proved vital as Corkery and O’Connor both scored for Boherbue to put one between them.

However Glanmire hung on to advance, as do Boherbue to the knockout stages.
