Cobh Ramblers' outstanding record against Cork City this season puts them in strong playoff position

Cobh Ramblers manager Fran Rockett was 'over the moon' after his side came from behind to defeat Cork City 3-2 at the Munster FA Turner’s Cross Stadium.

They went into the break trailing after Ruairi Keating scored into the St Anne’s End and came back with goals from Jordan Adyemi, Shane Griffin, and Anthony Adenopo.

The result means that Cobh Ramblers have done the league double over Cork City at the Munster FA Turner’s Cross Stadium for the first time in their history. It also moves the club up to fourth, while increasing their unbeaten run to five games.

Cobh are now on the cusp of securing play-off football for the third time in four seasons, with five games left to play.

Right now, Rockett is just thrilled with his side’s performance and comeback against a Cork City side that were reduced to 10 men after Fiacre Kelleher saw red at the end of the first half.

“Over the moon – I’m really, really happy with the finish after a disappointing first half,” he said.

“I thought we were miles off it in the first half. I think you can't argue with the sending off with the last man and stuff like that. 

"It's not a given to go in and beat a team who are down to 10 men. You've got to be patient about it. I think we went about our business right in the second half.

“Shane Griffin coming on, Dylan McGlade going central and we took control of the game. We had to be patient. We've showed a lot of sides to us.

“I think the first half will keep us on our toes but the second half is something we've got to aspire to moving forward.” 

Determined

The result boosts Cobh’s play-off chances after they conceded a dramatic equaliser at the death last week to UCD at St Colman’s Park.

“It's brilliant - I'm afraid to look at the table at times but the boys obviously made us aware of it,” Rockett added.

“I think the most important thing now is forward momentum. You see the supporters that were there at Turner’s Cross. You see even the discipline in the second half and the way the boys were speaking. I think there was a real belief that we had to have a composure and we did that.

“I think we're already looking forward to the next game now because I think the last week was a bit of a kick in the backside for us, for UCD to peg us back. I think against Cork City we're after solidifying the mindset now that we're a good team and that we're ready for anyone.”

The result will occupy a special place in Cobh’s history cause as the club have claimed seven points from the derby this year, with just one defeat incurred. The victories are what matters and the ones at Turner’s Cross cannot be any sweeter.
