Barrs, Sars, Blackrock and Courcey Rovers through to camogie semi-finals

Holders St Finbarr’s will be joined in the semi-finals of the SE Systems Cork senior camogie championship by Courcey Rovers, Blackrock, and Sarsfields after the quarter-finals on Saturday.
The semi-finals will see St Finbarr’s take on Sarsfields and Courcey Rovers facing Blackrock, with the games scheduled for Sunday, September 27.
The Barrs had a 3-16 to 0-7 win over Ballincollig, in a game that only came to light after the break.
It was 0-7 to 0-4 in their favour at half-time, but three goals from Sorcha McCartan saw the holders move a step closer to retaining their title. She also hit seven points, with Aoife Byrne, Eimear Hurley, and Nicole Olden also on target for the champions.
Sarsfields had a 0-17 to 0-9 win over Cloughduv, with Kate Fennessy, Cliona Lynch, Ava Fitzgerald, and Maeve McCarthy among their scorers.
The Rockies bounced back from a poor start to the championship, ironically against their semi-final opponents, to now face them for the second time this season.
In their quarter-final clash with Aghabullogue they won by 1-12 to 1-10, with Erinn Curtin getting their goal.
Courcey Rovers were another to win big against a St Catherine’s side that reached the final last year.
The Ballinspittle side won by 5-14 to 0-16, led by a superb individual display from former Cork senior Linda Collins, which saw her score 4-5 from play at Castle Road.
Two first-half goals from Collins was the difference between the sides at the break as Courcey Rovers led 3-6 to 0-10. Fiona Keating, playing with a heavily strapped broken thumb, was also on target with a goal as Courcey’s opened up an advantage.
They led from start to finish, with Collins finding the back of the net inside a minute.
St Catherine’s, with Niamh O’Regan and Orla Cotter pointing, narrowed the gap before Keating fired home Courcey Rovers second goal after 11 minutes.
Cotter and Ali Mulkerrins with points kept St Catherine’s in touch before Collins scored two without reply to keep the gap at two.
Twice the sides swapped points before Linda Collins had her second goal with three minutes to the interval.
It was Courceys who turned to play with a five-point lead and the wind advantage after Katie Crowley had denied St Catherine’s a goal just on the stroke of half-time.
The sides had swapped points early in the second half before Collins struck for her third goal. Gathering possession, she evaded two defenders to finish to the corner of the net.
From here it was an uphill battle for St Catherine’s, who could find no way through a solid Courcey Rovers defence.
As the sides continued to swap points, Courceys maintained their advantage, and when Collins finished to the net on 53 minutes, the result was never going to be in doubt as Courceys ran out winners with 13 points to spare.
