Buttevant 3-7 Urhan 1-12

In-form Buttevant got the better of Urhan in their McCarthy Insurance Premier JFC clash at Ballincollig.

The win means that Buttevant go through the group stages undefeated to top their section but Urhan also go through, despite the loss.

Buttevant can thank a three-minute spell in the first half for their win, when two of their goals came, and they needed them as Urhan came from 2-6 to 0-3 down at half-time to run them close.

Inspired by Kieran O’Sullivan they took the game to Buttevant in the second half. But Buttevant’s third goal from a penalty sealed their win as they top the group to advance. The game was held up for 10 minutes for an injury to Conchubhar Harrington who had come on for Urhan and had kicked two points in his time on the pitch.

It took 12 minutes for the first score to come when David Hanlon pointed from a free for Buttevant, with Kieran O’Sullivan replying at the other end for Urhan.

Hanlon then set up his brother, Conor, for Buttevant’s second point before they had the spell that made it an uphill battle for Urhan.

Mark Lenehan had a shot saved by Urhan keeper Gerard Dunne and they tried to clear the breaking ball.

But a defensive mistake let Conor Hanlon in and this time he made no mistake to find the back of the net, to make it 1-2 to 0-1.

David Hanlon added a point from a free before John O’Neill set up Lenehan for their second goal, the three scores coming in three minutes, to make it 2-3 to 0-1.

O’Sullivan pulled a point back for Urhan, with full-back Niall O’Riordan bursting forward to reply at the other end.

David Hanlon was on target from another free, before Sean O’Sullivan registered Urhan’s third point, from a free.

Lenehan scored just before half-time to make it 2-6 to 0-3 at the break.

Points from O’Sullivan and Alan Elphic reduced the deficit, before two from Harrington made it 0-7 to 2-7.

Jamie O’Neill got Urhan’s eight, before David Hanlon was fouled and he picked himself up to score the resultant penalty at the second attempt.

But Urhan hit back again with Cillian O’Shea scoring a goal for them.

Two frees from O’Neill put three between the sides, before O’Sullivan hit two more to put only one between them. But time ran out for Urhan as Buttevant hung on for the win.
