Ringmahon prove way too strong for Youghal in opening U19 league game of the season

Ringmahon Rangers proved too strong for an under strength Youghal United side to get their Daly Industrial Supplies U19 League 1 campaign off to the best possible start with an 8-1 victory at Ringmahon Park last Saturday morning.

The Ringers took a lead of 2-1 into the half time break with goals from Keith McCarthy and ex College Corinthians player Sean Murphy, with Youghal’s goal coming from Jamie Lehane.

The home side ran riot in the second half against a tired Youghal side where they added six more goals from Murphy, O’Suilleabhain (2), Adam O’Callaghan, Jayden O’Leary and Tyrese O’Leary for a comfortable victory.

Ringmahon opened the scoring to lead 1-0 in the sixth minute, Dara Walsh played a neat pass to Keith McCarthy and he rifled his effort into the roof of the net.

They came close to increasing their lead five minutes later, when Adam O’Callaghan found a pocket of space outside the box, however, his powerful effort stung the hands of Luke Hennessy in the Youghal goal. 

The visitors stunned the Ringer’s when they levelled the game 1-1 in the 15th minute, Liam Durkin done well to get his cross into the box from the right wing for Jamie Lehane to tuck home from close range. 

After a great passage of play by Ringmahon, Walsh sprayed a delightful cross field pass to O’Callaghan, however, his powerful effort hit the side netting in 31st minute. 

They came close again five minutes later when Ciaran O’Suilleabhain played a ball in behind Youghal’s back line for new signing Sean Murphy to run on to, however, his pullback flashed across the face of the goal to Hennessy’s relief. 

Then Youghal nearly caught the Ringer’s on the break, Hennessy cleared a long and hopeful ball for Lehane to run on to, but he dragged his effort wide. 

Ringmahon regained the lead 2-1 in the 43rd minute, Jayden O’Leary’s furious effort was only parred away by Hennessy and Murphy pounced to head home from close range.

Jayden O’Leary had the first real chance of the second half for the home team in the 54th minute when he skipped past two defenders, but his effort went inches over the bar. 

They increased their lead 3-1 in the 62nd minute when Murphy turned provider to lay the ball off to O’Suilleabhain to smash home from outside the box. 

They went 4-1 in front in the 68th minute, Jayden O’Leary picked up loose ball and his powerful effort flew into the far corner of their net. 

As the half went on Youghal were getting stretched and Adam O’Callaghan scored from a Murphy’s pass for Ringmahon to lead 5-1. 

Murphy grabbed his second goal of the game in the 76th minute to give the Ringers a 6-1 lead with a powerful effort on the edge of the box.

They made it 7-1 in the 81st minute O’Suilleabhain grabbed his second goal when he scored with a fine individual effort. 

With Youghal out on their feet, Tyrese O’Leary added an eight goal for Ringmahon with a long range effort to give them a comfortable 8-1 victory.
